ACS Design Checklist
Overview
This checklist serves as a technical roadmap for project scoping and system design of Inner Range Access Control Systems (ACS). It ensures all hardware, power, and regulatory requirements (NBC) are met before procurement and installation.
Site Survey Checklist
- Door Schedule: Quantify total doors, including fire exit doors and egress paths.
- Reader Types: Determine if SIFER (OSDP), Wiegand, or Biometric readers are required.
- Locking Hardware: Identify Maglocks (Fail-Safe) vs. Electric Strikes (Fail-Secure).
- Cabling: Confirm RS485 LAN distances (Max 1500m per branch) and cable type (twisted pair, shielded).
- Infrastructure: Identify head-end locations for Controllers and LAN expansion modules.
Platform Selection Criteria
Reference the Integriti vs Inception guide to choose the appropriate platform:
- Integriti: High-end enterprise, multi-site, unlimited expansion, high-security integrations.
- Inception: Small-to-medium sites, web-based (no software installation), up to 32 or 128 doors.
Module Sizing
- Cabinet Capacity: IAC supports up to 6 UniBus boards (Max 3 x 2-Door Expanders for 8 doors total per cabinet).
- LAN Expansion:
- Addressing: Plan DIPswitch addressing (1-99) for RS485 LAN System modules.
Power Budget
- Total Current Draw: Sum of Controller + LAN Modules + Readers + Lock Current.
- Lock Power: Ensure lock power is separated from system power to prevent noise interference.
- Battery Backup: NBC requires 4-hour battery standby for access-controlled doors in egress paths. Calculate AH requirements (Total Draw x 4 Hours).
NBC Compliance Checklist
- Fire Release: Integrate with the Fire Alarm Panel (FAP) using a Switched DC Power Hub to drop power to fail-safe locks.
- Fail-Safe Operation: All doors on egress paths must be Fail-Safe (unlock on power loss).
- Break-Glass: Local emergency override (Green Break Glass) required on the secure side of doors.
- Exit Buttons: Ensure REX (Request to Exit) PIRs or buttons do not conflict with NBC egress rules.
Commissioning Checklist
- Addressing: Verify unique LAN addresses and DIPswitch settings.
- Enrollment: Successfully enroll all modules into the Controller database.
- Testing:
- Access granted/denied logic.
- Fire Alarm interface drop-test (Lock release).
- Battery load test (Mains fail simulation).
