Inception User Interface

Overview

The Inception system features a responsive, browser-based web interface as its primary management and control layer. It also supports physical Elite and EliteX LCD Terminals for localized control.

Technical Details

Interface Infrastructure

  • Web Technology: The UI is served via an embedded web server running natively on the Inception Controller.
  • Encryption: Browser sessions are secured using HTTPS (SSL/TLS).
  • Network Discovery: Controllers can be discovered on a local network via the Inner Range IP Config Tool.

Concurrent Access

  • Multi-User Support: Multiple operators can manage the system simultaneously without requiring a proxy server.
  • Profile-Based UI: The interface dynamically hides menu items and dashboards based on the logged-in user’s assigned Web Page Profile.

Web Interface Navigation

The interface is designed to be responsive across smartphones, tablets, and computers.

Login and Connectivity

  • Local Connection: Access via the controller’s IP address.
  • SkyTunnel: Access via https://www.skytunnel.com.au/inception/SERIALNUMBER (where SERIALNUMBER is in the format INxxxxxxxx).
  • Credentials: Supports Username/Password or PIN-only entry for touch devices.

The navigation bar on the left contains three main sections:

  • [State / Control]: Live monitoring and control of Areas, Doors, Inputs, and Outputs.
  • [Configuration]: Setup for Users, Schedules, and General System settings.
  • [System]: Administrative tasks like Database Backups, Reports, and System Overview.

Dashboard and Favourites

  • Dashboard: The landing page after login.
  • Favourites: Often-interacted items (Areas, Doors, Outputs) can be pinned to the Dashboard via [Configuration > Users > Web Page Profiles]. Profiles determine which pages and favourites a user sees.

System Control via Web

  • Area Control: Navigate to [State / Control > Control Areas]. Use “Quick Control” for arming/disarming. Failed arming attempts show failure reasons (e.g., unsealed inputs) in a dialog.
  • Door Control: Navigate to [State / Control > Control Doors]. Supports Lock, Unlock, Lockout, and Grant Access overrides.
  • Output Control: Navigate to [State / Control > Control Outputs]. Supports On/Off and Timed Control (seconds to hours).
  • Input Control: Navigate to [State / Control > Control Inputs]. Primarily used to Isolate faulty detectors.

Elite / EliteX Terminal Usage

Physical keypads provide day-to-day control without a browser.

Terminal Key Functions

  • [MENU]: Returns to the main menu.
  • [END]: Logs the user off (Auto-logoff occurs after 1 minute of inactivity).
  • [ON] / [OFF]: Used to control selected items (Areas, Outputs, etc.).
  • [OK]: Accept changes or acknowledge messages.
  • [HELP]: Displays context-sensitive help text.

Quick Control

  • Quick Arm/Disarm: Enter PIN and press [ON] or [OFF] instead of [OK] to bypass the menu and immediately control the associated area.
